2016 MANA Congress

This year's congress was held at the DCU Center in Worcester in Massachusetts from Friday, August 5 to Sunday, August 7, 2016.  Apart from California which sent seven delegates, there were delegations from Chicago, Connecticut, Columbus (Ohio) and Colorado.  The congress began with a welcome party at the home of the president of the Mfantseman Kuw of Worcester, Mr. Kweku Paintsil on Friday evening.  We had a general meeting Saturday morning at which a new executive committee was elected.  Mr. Isaac Osei-Sarpong from the Mfantseman Kuw of Worcester was elected the new MANA president.  Mr. Ishmael Mensah, our fellow MoSC member, was reelected treasurer following the outstanding work he did as treasurer for the association the past two years. The Saturday afternoon saw us doing the "Duck" tour, a trip on a 37-passenger amphibious vehicle which drove us through streets in areas of historical interest in Boston as well as cruising on River Charles!  The main event and highlight of the congress was the Saturday evening banquet.  The guest speaker was Dr. Nsidinanya Okike, a highly respected medical doctor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and Hospital.  He spoke on "Reducing Infant Mortality in Ghana" also the theme of the congress.  This year's congress goal was to raise funds to buy medical equipment and other supplies for the children's ward at the Cape Coast University Hospital.  The congress was an exciting and a very pleasant experience for all the delegates as well as the local guests.  God willing, the 2018 Congress will be held in Columbus-Ohio and hosted by Columbus (Ohio) Fantse Association during the week-end of July 28, 2018.
